Stål Timber has been a family-owned and operated business in the DFW area since 2012. We specialize in blending metal and wood in our furniture and fixtures in unexpected and beautiful ways and doing it better than anyone else.

Stål Timber has been a family-owned and operated business in the DFW area since 2012. We specialize in blending metal and wood in our furniture and fixtures in unexpected and beautiful ways and doing it better than anyone else.
From the start, our goal has been to be a vehicle for collaboration between designers, architects, builders, and their clients.
Stål Timber engages in a broad range of project types and scales from small side tables to large-scale decorative installations. Thoughtful solutions to these initiatives are informed by ongoing research in the ever-changing landscape of design and build.
At Stål Timber, we are constantly mindful of the value of the conversation between our clients and yours as a necessary ingredient for the development of quality projects.
Josh Marten has been making furniture for more than 20 years as a hobby and a passion. He learned to weld in the mid-’90s making beds and other furniture for his family’s home.
Before starting Stål Timber, Josh had spent 12 years in the photography and large format printing industry.
Josh and his wife/business partner played around with the idea of starting their own business for about 10 years, but it always seemed like a pipe dream.
When his previous employment ended, the couple took the time to do some deep soul-searching. They talked through ideas and checked their budget repeatedly until they finally made the courageous decision to go after their dreams.
Three days later, Stål Timber (Norwegian for steel and wood) was born. After three years of working out of their garage, building everything from bespoke home furniture to retail and restaurant furniture and fixtures, they moved into their first commercial production space. Today their primary focus is on collaborative custom design for residential and commercial spaces including, retail and restaurant furniture, while still producing the steel industrial tables that gave them their start.
Sinikka Marten joined her husband, Josh, as co-owner of Stål Timber. She took a more active role in the company after leaving the corporate aviation industry, where she worked for 18 years in sales and account management. Allowing Josh to focus more heavily on the creative side of things, Sinikka has taken on much of the business management endeavors. She is involved with the local chapters of IDS and ASID, which helps keep the company at the forefront of trends and innovations within the interior design industry.
When she finds time off the clock, she spends it with her family. The business remains a family affair, however, with the whole Marten family often spotted pitching in around the workshop.
